"Are there aspects of your life that you are unsatisfied with that you blame on external circumstances or other people? Do you often feel angry, frustrated or tense for no apparent reason? Are you unable to get along with your family? If you answered yes to these questions, then according to Darren L. Johnson, it's time for you to make a change. And Johnson, who has over 20 years experience as a coach, consultant and inspirational speaker, has just published Letting Go of Stuff: Powerful Secrets to Simplify Your Life.
This well-designed self-help manual outlines seven steps to a new you. The first has to do with accepting the fact that you have work to do. The second involves realizing that change is necessary. The third directs the reader to pay attention to one's "internal conversations" in order to ascertain what you are saying to yourself.
Rather than reveal all of this so-called Doctor of Letting Go's secrets, suffice to say that he doles out a lot of sensible advice for those inclined to discover the power within themselves. With references alluding to his being influences by the likes of Deepak Chopra, A Course in Miracles and Louise Hay, the author might be thought of as a New Age therapist for African-Americans.
His how-to text includes plenty of exercises designed as kicks-in-the-butt for the very stuck. In one, for instance, on "Unfreezing," he has you write down who you are right now, before delineating who you'd like to be. Does it work? Who knows, I'm certainly too set in my ways to follow his step-by-step plan.
I'll simply say this for Letting Go of Stuff: I would suspect that anybody already highly-enough motivated to purchase the book is likely to find it a worthwhile read. For it is written in an intelligent and engaging style, which will all but cattle prod willing participants out of complacency and onto a path of self-improvement and self-realization."

"When Darren L. Johnson talks about letting go of stuff, he doesn't mean the 10 pairs of jeans you're keeping for when you actually lose those 10 pounds. In Letting Go of Stuff: Powerful Secrets To Simplify Your Life (InsideOut Learning, Inc.), he's more concerned with cleaning out the internal closet, getting rid of those negative thoughts that keep people trapped in unhappiness and afraid of change. Most of his tips, such as replacing negative self-talk with postiive inner dialogue, are nothing new, but his unusual exercises should motivate people more confortable reading self-help books than actually working on improving their lives. And the numerous examples from Johnson's own life show that he practices what he preaches."
